John Howard Carpenter was born in New York. He attended West Kentucky university, moving on to USC film school in LA. His career started with several short films in 1962, winning an Oscar for The Resurrection of Broncho Billy in 1970, while still attending school. He is most known for Dark Star (1974), Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), Halloween (1978), The Fog (1980), The Thing (1982) and They Live (1988).
