ORIGINAL TITLE

BASUDE WANDARANDO / THE WONDERLAND

The Wonderland is a Japanese animated adventure film, following an eternally interesting story and focusing on a motif that is quite often found in anime films – the coming-of-age of the main character. Akane is a shy, withdrawn six-year-old girl. The day before her birthday, she goes to see her aunt Chi at her antiques shop. There, she uncovers a magical world, deftly hidden behind the basement door, and goes on an exciting adventure with the help of Pipo the fairy and the eccentric Hippocrates the Alchemist, who, for some unknown reason, keeps calling her “Green Goddess”. This breathtaking and heartwarming adventure film will reveal to us whether Akane will be able to save this world, whose springs are drying out and trees are losing their leaves.

The Wonderland is yet another wondrous and memorable feature film from the Land of the Rising Sun, which has given us all the splendor, imagination, creativity, beauty, and intelligence of the fantastic anime world. With its fairytale framework, this film relies on a fantasy world of extraordinary characters, events, and situations to talk about the global warming and other environmental issues of today. If you are a fan of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli masterpieces, then this is the film for you.
