In this highly influential 1922 silent horror film, a vampire who preys on the wife of his estate agent, brings the plague to their town. Nosferatu was produced as an unauthorized and unofficial adaptation of Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula, with various names and details changed. Because of this fact, the film has almost been lost forever, after Stoker’s heirs sued for copyrights. The judgment was to destroy all the copies of the film, however, several prints of Nosferatu survived, and the film came to be regarded as an influential masterpiece of cinema.
Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau was a German film director, producer and screenwriter. He was greatly influenced by the greats: Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Shakespeare and Ibsen in his early years. Murnau directed a total of 21 films during his career, including some very relevant works such as Nosferatu (1922), The Last Laugh (1924), Sunrise (1927), 4 Devils (1928) and City Girl (1930). Eight of his films have been completely lost.
